Banana shakes and…shelfies?!? Well, the banana shake is kind of self-explanatory, but the shelfie requires a little more background. A ‘shelfie,’ according to Netflix, is a show that you really want to watch but you’ve been putting off because you just haven’t had the time. We’ve all got them (ahem, Scandal, Heroes, Blacklist, and the list goes on…) and for some reason our family didn’t quite get to all of them over the summer. But now that it’s fall and our schedules are more predictable, we’ve got a better chance to start catching up on those shows that have been “on the shelf” for ages.
Now don’t laugh, because the Jolly Tomato family is admittedly way behind, but we just started a little nightly tradition of watching Arrested Development on Netflix with our tween. (How did we miss this the first time around?!?!) It’s been fun, funny, and it offers some great food jokes for a food-loving family.
To honor the fact that “There’s always money in the banana stand!” we made these simple banana-Greek yogurt shakes for our viewing ritual the other night. They’re rich, creamy, and filling – perfect for topping off a fall day filled with soccer practice, hiking, and swimming.
- 1 cup lowfat milk
- 2 cups frozen Greek yogurt
- 2 medium frozen ripe bananas
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate topping
- Caramel topping
Combine milk, frozen yogurt, and bananas in a blender and puree until smooth. Pour into glasses and top with whipped cream and chocolate and caramel toppings to taste. Serve immediately.
And remember, it’s just one banana – What could it cost, 10 dollars?
