Cheeseburger Skewers for School Lunch

Cheeseburger Skewers? You heard that right. If you’re currently in a school lunch rut, we feel your pain.  To remedy some of that dread, we’ve got one easy solution. Make good use of your leftover burgers and stack them up in skewer form. They’ll definitely look more interesting – and they have great kid appeal.

All You Need is a Skewer

The central item that (literally) holds this cheeseburger lunch together is the bamboo party skewer. (It’s a favorite of ours for all sorts of stick-inspired meals and snacks.) We got these at World Market but you can also find them in well-stocked supermarkets and party supply stores. They’re great for lunches because they’re fun, a little unexpected, and surprisingly convenient for grab-and-go meals.

For the “fries” in this lunch box we used commercially packaged veggie fries from Trader Joe’s. Alternatively, you could use any other kind of veggie fry that your kids might like – sweet potato, carrot, avocado, parsnip, etc.

Recipe Notes

Note: You'll want to pack this with an ice pack or some cold source to keep the meat safe.

Easy For Leftover Burgers

Note that you truly don’t have to put forth a lot of effort for these skewers. If you’re having burgers for dinner, cut any leftover burgers into cubes and your prep work is done.
Also worth noting: We sent these cheeseburger skewers with our kids to a day at camp for a test run. Believe it or not, they drew a little crowd of curious onlookers. First, everyone wanted to find out more about the “fancy” cheeseburger lunch. Then they all wanted to taste one to see if it tasted different from a regular burger. And last, they wanted to know if our kid could bring more tomorrow.
Needless to say, there was nothing left but crumbs.
