As parents, we’re always looking for the best foods for our kids – and when it comes to milk, we’ve found our favorite choice for kids in fairlife ultra-filtered milk with DHA.
Now most people think of milk with DHA as something you’d give to little kids as they transition from breast milk help with early brain development – which is true (and fairlife whole milk with DHA is perfect for that). But in our house, with tweens and teens, we’re finding that fairlife 2 percent milk with DHA is just as valuable.
What we’ve learned, from doing our research on DHA, is that it it’s an important dietary component for teens and tweens – not only for brain health, but also for attention, behavior, and memory. However, older kids often miss out on vital Omega-3s like DHA in their diets. Even in homes (like ours) with plenty of healthy food on hand, tweens and teens tend to spend more of their time outside of the house, on the go, with their friends, and are more likely to have a diet heavy on fast food and sugary treats. (Let’s be real here – they’re not going out with their friends on a Saturday night and eating mackerel.) By serving milk with DHA at home, we help them to fill in some of those nutritional gaps.
And if you ask our kids, they’d tell you that the best part about having DHA milk is that it’s a no-brainer. It tastes great. And the best part is, since it’s something they’re going to be drinking every day anyway, having fairlife milk with DHA right there in the fridge makes it more likely that they’ll get closer to their daily recommended amount of DHA without even having to think about it. (Worth noting: the fairlife with DHA milks offer 125mg of DHA Omega-3 fatty acids per serving, more than triple the amount found in other milks with DHA.)
Our kids will also tell you that if you’re not a big milk drinker, but if you’re a chocolate fan, you’re in luck. The fairlife with DHA milk comes in chocolate (as well as whole milk and 2 percent), so you can get your chocolate fix and your DHA too.
And of course, as we’ve mentioned before, we love fairlife because it’s great-tasting and nutrient-dense. All of the fairlife milks are ultra-filtered with 50 percent more protein, 50 percent less sugar, and 30 percent more calcium than regular milks; along with being lactose-free, gluten-free, and free of artificial growth hormones.
Plus, it’s ultra-pasteurized for a longer shelf life (up to 100 days) while unopened and refrigerated. This is a great boon to those of us who have thirsty kids and need to keep a ready stock of milk in the fridge.
Looking for fairlife with DHA? You’ll find it in just about every major grocery store – it’ll be in the milk section next to the other fairlife products.
Stay tuned next month (in our continuing partnership with fairlife) for more ideas on incorporating fairlife into your kids’ routine as they head back to school.
