Massive Chocolate Cake

4 cups flour

4 cups sugar

8 T. cocoa powder

2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 lb. margarine

1 cup shortening

2 cups water

1 cup buttermilk

4 eggs, slightly beaten

2 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 400 degrees, and grease and flour sheet pan (12″x18″ or 2 9″x13″ pans). In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking soda. In a separate bowl (over the stove or in the microwave), melt together margerine, shortening, and water. Pour margerine mixture over the dry ingredients and mix with large spoon until smooth. Add in order the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla, and beat until smooth. Pour into baking pan and bake 22 to 24 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Remove from oven and frost immediately. Serves 40 to 50.

Frosting

1/4 pound butter

1 pound powdered sugar, sifted

4 T. cocoa

10 tsp. milk

1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter, add sugar and cocoa. Then add milk and vanilla and beat to spreading consistency.
