Grilled Fruit and Fitness with Adidas

For our family, summer is about eating the freshest foods and being outside as much as possible. When adidas asked us to write a post about healthy foods and fitness, it was a no-brainer. For those of you who are a bit more advanced, you can always perform each routine more than once. Small changes can lead to huge results. We live at the beach and we’ve got people coming and going all the time… so we like to have tasty, healthy snacks like grilled fruit on hand that everyone can enjoy.

Grilled fruit? That’s right! You take the summer’s best fruit, plus the summer’s best method of cooking, and you end up with a snack that’s so tasty and sweet you’ll surprise even the pickiest kids (and adults) with how much they love it.

But first,  just to set the stage: Anytime we’re at the beach or backyard by the grill we’re also protecting our heads and faces from the rays in adidas hats and visors like this one, which is so cool we’ve gotten stopped on the street by people asking where we got it.

And whether we’re at the beach, doing errands around town, or cooking at home, you’ll find us (and everyone else in the family) almost 24-7 in the summertime in our adidas slides (Pro tip: The Adilette Cloudfoam slides are like walking around in a cloud.).

Now for the grilled fruit: You’re going to want just-ripe fruit – not too firm, not too mushy – for grilling. We’ve had the best grilled fruit experiences in the past with peaches, pineapple, and watermelon, so we’ll use these here.

We’ve had the best luck when we brush the grill and/or the fruit with just a little bit of oil so that the pieces don’t stick to the grill. Also, we keep the grill at about 300 degrees – and watch the fruit closely – so that it doesn’t char or burn. What you want are just those nice pretty grill stripes – and then you’re done. The heat caramelizes the sugars in the fruit, so you get a rich, intense, almost smoky-sweet flavor in every bite.

Bring out the sweetness of summer fruit with this easy fruit grilling recipe.
Ingredients
  • 1 pineapple, peeled and cored, cut into spears
  • 4 peaches, pitted and sliced
  • 1/4 large watermelon, cut into spears
  • Olive oil for brushing
Instructions
  1. Preheat your grill to 300 degrees.
  2. Take the prepared fruit and brush it with olive oil. Lay the pieces out carefully on the grill. Grill each piece for about 3 minutes on each side, or until nice grill marks are formed (but do not let the fruit char or burn). Remove from heat and serve immediately or at room temperature.

See how easy that was? That’ll leave you plenty of time to go play at the beach… and it’ll have those beach-goers coming back to your house for more grilled fruit.
