Starters

First, the summer menu features a wildly colorful Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad. Like many items on the True Food Kitchen menu, it’s gluten-free and vegan. Fresh chunks of heirloom tomato and watermelon sit on top of (vegan) coconut lime yogurt, along with basil, mint, and toasted pistachio. Incidentally, have you had True Food Kitchen’s coconut yogurt? It amazingly rich and creamy, with no dairy whatsoever. It’s the perfect vegan replacement for regular yogurt.

Second was our table’s hands-down favorite, the Korean Noodle Salad. This salad (also vegan) features sweet potato glass noodles, bok choy, kale, cucumber kimchi, mango, bean sprouts, and almond lime vinaigrette. Additionally, the sweet potato noodles are incredibly noodle-like. You would never know they are actually sweet potatoes.

Main Courses

Next, the main courses include Summer Tacos, which you can eat with either fish or beef. These gluten-free tacos feature tomatillo avocado salsa, pickled jicama slaw, coconut lime yogurt, and a side of anasazi beans. The pickled jicama slaw is the perfect addition – it’s perfectly refreshing and not too heavy. Our dinner companion, a taco fan, declared these his “favorite tacos of the summer.”

Additionally, you can choose Responsibly Sourced Striped Bass, which includes ancient grains and vegetables. The savory grain mixture will have everyone at your table scrambling to get a taste.

Desserts

Last, on the dessert side, you’re going to love the totally original new Summer Berries item. The berry dish features forbidden black rice, macadamia nuts, and coconut cream. Incidentally, the forbidden black rice part is kind of a like a rice pudding. It adds a satisfyingly chewy and hearty element to the sweet summer berries.

Of course, once you’re at True Food Kitchen you can’t forget the drinks. We loved the summer drink choices, starting off with the gorgeous Wild Orchid cocktail. This drink has lemon-infused vodka, lavender, and blueberry. Last but not least, it’s topped with a pretty edible orchid flower.

On the non-alcoholic side, we enjoyed the Pop de Provence drink. This gorgeous drink features bubbly water with lemon and lavender. Everyone who tried it agreed: it tastes like drinking a tall, cool glass of lavender.

Headed to True Food Kitchen? It’s now in 23 locations across the United States. The summer menu is available through early October.
