Summertime means it’s time for adventures, and what better way to cool off than a deep sea adventure? At Legoland California’s new Deep Sea Adventure ride, you can go underwater to see a spectacular array of sea animals while discovering Lego treasure. Add that to a day of rides, games, and healthy treats, and it all makes for a pretty spectacular summer day.
The Deep Sea Adventure ride brings guests onboard a real submarine where they get to see more than 2,000 sea creatures, including several species of sting rays and sharks. Through the use of touch screens at each porthole inside the sub, guests help identify gems, pearls, Lego gold coins, and other treasures throughout the four-minute journey.
A few stats on this amazing ride: It’s a 350,000 gallon tank, with a total of eight submarines. Each of the eight submarines weighs 22,000 pounds and holds 12 passengers. The ride contains real ocean sea water, specialized LED lights that use low energy, and a filtration system built with water recovery systems to repurpose any waste water. All of the sea creatures are cared for by the Sea Life aquarium staff.
Once you exit the ride, you head into the retail store where you can create your own fantastical deep sea creature, and then project your creature onto a large digital underwater scene projected onto the wall of the store (and pick out the Legos needed to make your creature if you want to bring it home).
Other new attractions include the Sea at Night exhibit at the Sea Life aquarium (next door to Legoland), where you can walk, jump, and “splash” in ocean waves projected on the ground, giving the effect of a nighttime bioluminescent tide. For lodging, the new Legoland Castle Hotel features 250 rooms and more than 2,000 Lego models. You can enjoy a healthy feast at the Dragons Den before heading over to watch the daily entertainment in the courtyard, or walk just a few short steps over to Legoland.
And last but not least, once you’re in the park, you’re going to want to try our favorite Legoland food treat: Granny’s Apple Fries. These “fries” are Granny Smith apples, cooked to a crisp and dusted with cinnamon sugar, and then topped off with vanilla cream. A perfect treat after a full day of adventure.
