Heirloom Apple Pizza

Now that it’s fall, it’s time to turn our attention to one of our favorite fruits: apples. Inspired by these beautiful heirloom apples from Frieda’s, we decided to make an heirloom apple pizza.

A selection of Cortland, Cox’s Orange Pippin, and Ribbston Pippin apples from Frieda’s

Why heirloom apples? They have that crisp, crunchy fall taste, with a little bit of tart mixed in with the sweet, and the all-around deliciousness of a good old-fashioned apple.

“But why apple pizza?!?” moans our kid in the background. Well, once the apple bakes in the pizza it turns juicy but not super-sweet. We gave it a little more of a classic pizza flavor by adding a little salty (bacon) and creamy (Fontina) flavors. The result: A tasty fall pizza that’ll send your taste buds soaring (and have the kids asking for seconds).
