Witch Fingers Grapes

It’s Halloween in July! Or at least it feels like it, with these super-fun, super-tasty “Witch Fingers” variety of grapes from Melissa’s Produce.

Witch Fingers are a new artisan hybrid grape. A producer in California’s San Joaquin Valley who is devoted to developing unique grape varieties grows them exclusively. Witch Fingers have a super sweet flavor, deep-purple coloring, and a uniquely elongated fruit shape fruit that is both playful and elegant. (We tried them side-by-side with our regular purple table grapes — they are clearly sweeter, and definitely more unique!)

We showed them to our kids and then brought them to an impromptu summer backyard party. The response was universal. First there was fascination, then followed by tentative tasting, then followed by a mad scramble to eat all of the remaining grapes. They really are that good.

How are we going to use these tasty grapes? No fancy recipes, just good old-fashioned grape eating. Well, OK, we came up with this Spooky Snack to pack for a camp snack, with “Witch Hat” blue corn tortilla chips, “Witch Eye” hard-boiled eggs with olive, and Witch Fingers grapes:

Clockwise, from left: “Witch hat” blue corn tortilla chips, “witch eye” hard-boiled eggs and olives, frozen Witch Fingers grapes

Pro lunch-packing tip: We freeze the grapes so they stay cold and keep everything else cold in the lunch bag at the same time.

These Witch Fingers grapes will be available for a short season. At the moment, they can be ordered from Melissas.com or by calling 800-588-0151.

Blogger disclosure: We received a sample of these grapes to try but did not receive compensation for this post. All opinions expressed are our own.
