Peach Salsa Made With White Peaches and Hot Sauce

Summer is peach season, and what better time to make peach salsa? We’ve learned so much about peaches that now we want to eat them in everything. This tasty restaurant-style salsa hits all the right notes.

Salsa is a tough sell for kids sometimes, so the beauty of this is that you can make it as hot or as not-hot as you like. The funny thing about our pickiest eater is that he’s not afraid of hot stuff. So when he tried this salsa (made with one teaspoon of Melissa’s blazingly hot Red Savina Hot Sauce as noted), his reaction was this:

“Oh.”

“Hm.”

“WOW!”

“Whoa.”

And then he went back to get more. That’s a solid endorsement if we’ve ever heard one.

White (Hot) Peach Salsa

A peach salsa made with white peaches. You can make it as mild or hot as you like!

Course Appetizer, Condiment
Cuisine American
Keyword peach, peaches, salsa, white peach
Servings 6

Ingredients

  • 3 large white peaches, ripe but fairly firm
  • 1/2 red onion
  • 2 fresh jalapeno peppers
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 large bunch cilantro (about 1/2 cup loosely packed leaves)
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (We used Melissa's Red Savina Hot Sauce)
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin prep work: Halve the peaches, remove the pits, and dice the peaches into very small pieces. Peel and dice the onion. Peel, seed and dice the jalapenos (wearing protective gloves if needed). Mince the garlic. Coarsely chop the cilantro leaves.

  2. Combine peaches, onion, jalapeno, garlic, and cilantro in a medium bowl. Add hot
sauce, adjusting for taste, and lime juice. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve
    with chips.

As mentioned, we used Melissa’s Red Savina Hot Sauce, which is a super-hot sauce made with red savina peppers, a relative of habanero peppers. You can substitute any habanero sauce (or similarly hot sauce) in its place.

What makes a good match for this spicy peach salsa? Tortilla chips, of course. Choose yellow or blue, or even red if you can find them. You can also use the salsa as a garnish for fish or poultry. And if you’re feeling really creative, serve it as part of a decorative cheese tray with plenty of cheeses, olives, charcuterie, and crackers.
