Mmmm. Sliders. There’s nothing quite like a tasty little mini-burger that you can garnish however you like, without making a big commitment. Plus you already know how much our kids love miniature foods, so sliders fit right in with that theme.
When we decided to make sliders this week, we thought we’d turn it into a make-your-own slider bar so everyone could experiment with their favorite combinations. After we laid out mini burgers, mini buns, and every manner of garnish, we came up with these winning sliders:
Tropical slider: Top with mango, thinly sliced red onion, and chipotle mayonnaise.
Italian slider: Top with fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil leaves.
California slider: Top with lettuce, crispy-fried Vidalia onions, and lime vinaigrette.
“It’s much more fun to eat them this way – You can try as many different combinations as you like,” observed one of our guests. “Plus you get a feeling of accomplishment each time you create something new.”
Of course, some kids might initially ask for plain old ketchup and mustard. But if you make the accompaniments nice and tasty-looking (who can resist freshly chopped mango?) they might be willing to step out of their comfort zones. That’s why no matter what the topping, we love sliders for a fun and kid-friendly summer menu.
Weekend Fun Food: Because food should be fun.
