The Jolly Tomato took the kids out for donuts (yikes – a runner-up in our Hall of Shame foods to avoid for kids) this afternoon. And then when they both clamored for lollipops after dinner, she doled them out to everyone. How’s that for an auspicious start to writing about kids’ food intake?
At the Jolly Tomato, we’re not here to judge you or your kids. We’re real people who believe in gathering all of the information we can, using that knowledge when appropriate, and then doing what you need to do to live your life. We’ve got picky eaters, slow eaters, and sugar junkies. We’re as confused as the next mom about whether to hide veggies in the food or keep the kids at the table until they eat them. We try not to make mealtime a battle, but sometimes at the end of a long day, it becomes one anyway.
What we hope to do here is create a forum where you can get information, ideas, and resources for helping your kids get the nutrition they need for a busy childhood and a healthy life. It’s a big undertaking, but we’re having fun with it, and we hope you will too.
